How to Put Together Your Content for a Killer One-Page Website

0. FO – Blog Images – Feature Image

When you need to create an online presence FAST, a one-page website is a perfect solution. You’ll look like the real deal, and have just enough internet cred to nab some quality clients while you build out the rest of your platform.

The thing is, your one-pager has to work just as hard as you. It has to do all the storytelling for your business and brand, gather opt-ins, and get enquiries through the door.

Fortunately, we’ve already done some of the hard work for you so that you can get back to business faster – so let’s get started:

1) Logo and menu

As much as we love a creative concept, we’ll be the first to assert that you can’t go wrong with a bit of research – and the powers that be would recommend a few essentials. We’re talking simple navigation and a logo placed in the top left-hand corner.

Basically, you’ll want to link the menu tabs to different sections of the homepage. Linking to other pages can wait until those other pages…you know, exist.

For bonus points, put the most important link on the menu in the far right corner so that it catches the eye.

2)  Banner real estate

The main banner section of your site is where we communicate your USP (Unique Selling Proposition). In other words, how are you different?

Don’t waste your space here with a slider, and other vanity content.  We need to condense the thing that sets your business apart from everyone else’s into one quick takeaway and action to move on.

Examples of USPs + Calls to action:

Website Company:

We make websites that convert 90% more effectively than the rest.

CTA:  Get started on your website now.

Naturopath:

Naturopathy and Massage with a French Twist.

CTA: Oui! Book Your First Session.

Virtual Assistant:

Ontraport Certified VA’s dedicated to YOUR business growth.

CTA:  Book a discovery call

Copywriter:

Catch the right flies in your web(site copy).

CTA:  Send me your price list, damn it!

What you need to provide:

  • Your USP heading copy.
  • One or two sentences explaining yourself.
  • Button Text (ie GET IT NOW)

3)  A credibility builder

We’ve made some pretty big claims in the banner area, and now it’s time to back it up.  At this point, we need either a short client testimonial or the logos of systems you are certified in.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading Text
  • Logos or a testimonial (with a photo if possible).

4)  A small opt-in

This small opt-in is a condensed version of what you will offer at the bottom of the page, and it should tie into your USP. You’ll want to test out your opt-ins over time, so don’t waste time on creating a 30-page ebook before you have tested whether your audience actually wants that kind of content.

Side note: you can also place the opt-in at the end of a one-page website to get better value opt-ins who have actually read your spiel.

Example of optin content:

Getting started with Ontraport? Get our list of the 10 awesome integrations we couldn’t live without!

[Get it now!]

What you need to provide:

  • Opt-in heading
  • Opt-in body text
  • Button copy
  • Thank you message or URL to your thank you page

5)  An About section

Tell us who you are, who you work with, and what kind of results you can deliver.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading Text
  • A paragraph of copy, approximately 100 words.

6)  Your offers

How can people work with you? We recommend having three tiers of offers, especially when your business is new. Once you have the experience, testimonials, and word of mouth, you can tailor your offerings, but trust us on this: keeping things simple will win you brownie points in the early days.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading
  • Short intro paragraph
  • Offer info (the short version) in three tiers. If you have an opt-in to get package information, we need the HTML code to your opt-in list. Since this is a one-page website, we won’t link these buttons to other pages (unless you have them set up on Leadpages or Ontraport Pages) but you can always do this yourself in the future.  In the meantime, we can link them to an opt-in pop-up, an email address, or the contact form at the bottom of the page.

TIP:  Create a PDF detailing your offerings and get your prospective clients to opt-in to get send the full info. You’re thereby growing your list and providing more information about your service.  If you’re smart, you’ll also send them a follow-up nurture sequence – and you can get more info on that here.

7)  More credibility

Your one-page website needs to convince people that you mean business in a flash, and nothing says “work with me” quite like glowing testimonials! You can also throw in logos of the places you’ve been featured, or if you’re working in a visual field, put in a gallery to show off your stuff.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading text
  • Testimonial content (image, copy) x 3 (you can always add more yourself later)

Or

  • More logos

Or

  • Up to 9 gallery images for a portfolio (you can always add more yourself later)

8)  Your main opt-in

People have read this far, so let’s get them to opt in!

What you need to provide:

  • Opt-in heading
  • Opt-in body text
  • Button copy
  • Thank you message or URL to your thank you page.

If you are using a free PDF or video series, send us a screenshot of the cover of your product or a screenshot of your video and we will fancy it up for you.

9)  Contact form

Time to get your prospective clients to book a session with you!

What you need to provide:

  • Short message for the top of the form.
  • The questions for your contact form.
  • The email address your form should be sent to.
  • Your thank you message (shown with the form is submitted)

Now let’s put it all together!  Click here to create your own content document to upload with your One Pager Info Pack.
